Geraldine McEwan in Miss Marple - series 2Geraldine McEwan was back for series two in 2006. Sleeping Murder Russ Abbot, an old-school comedian, was brought out of retirement for his first TV appearance in four years, playing a local detective, Inspector Primer. Sleeping Murder was filmed on location in Devon in July 2005. The two-hour ITV1 drama also featured comedians Peter Serafinowicz and Dawn French. The murder victim was played by Anna-Louise Plowman and the cast also included Martin Kemp, Sophia Myles, Sarah Parish, Paul McGann, Phil Davis, Geraldine Chaplin, Aidan McArdle and Una Stubbs. Sleeping Murder was screened on ITV1 on 5th February 2006. The screenplay was written by Stephen Churchett who disappointed with the 4.50 from Paddington in series one. This time his writing was excellent and Sleeping Murder is on of the best of the new Miss Marple productions. The Moving Finger Lymstock is a town with more than its share of shameful secrets - a town where even a sudden outbreak of anonymous hate mail causes only a minor stir. But when Mona Symmington commits suicide as a result of one of the letters, Miss Marple believes that there is more to the case than meets the eye. Was Mrs Symmington murdered? As the letters become even more deadly, the village is thrown into turmoil. The cast includes Geraldine McEwan, Imogen Stubbs, James D'Arcy, Ken Russell, Frances de la Tour and Thelma Barlow. By the Pricking of My Thumbs In this episode Miss marple meets Tommy and Tuppence, a couple who only made a few outings in Agatha Christie's novels. When Tommy and Tuppence visit an elderly aunt in her nursing home, Tuppence is concerned by some odd behaviour of the staff and residents. Later, when Tuppence hears about Aunt Ada's sudden death and the disappearance of her aunt's friend Mrs Lancaster, she realises her concerns were right. Tuppence and Miss Marple follow a path of clues that lead them to the village of Farrell St Edmund, where they find a community guarding an array of secrets. Geraldine McEwan stars with Greta Scacchi, Anthony Andrews, Claire Bloom, June Whitfield and Josie Lawrence. |
