DAB radio

Channel 4 have won the second national DAB radio multiplex, which will serve the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

Digital One, the UK's only commercial national DAB multiplex owner launched theJazz at 9am this morning.

Although theJazz only broadcasts in mono, this is the first ever national jazz station in the UK.

Electrical retailer Dixons has dropped analogue radios from their range.

DAB digital radios took the sales lead at Dixons in 2003 and now outsell analogue radios by 30 to one. the day of the FM and AM radio is drawing to its close.

One of the longest running quiz shows on the radio, "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue" first began in 1972.

It followed on from a previous radio comedy show in the 1960's, "I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again", which starred John Cleese, Bill Oddie and Tim Brooke-Taylor.

Chris was born on February 22 1974 in Leeds and is currently presenter of the breakfast show on Radio 1.

Prior to Radio 1, Chris had worked on several radio stations, including Capital FM, The Pulse, and Radio Aire. He also worked for a short time on Radio Luxembourg under the name Chris Holmes, which is actually his mothers maiden name!

Pure Digital

The Bug was launched in 2004 and was designed by Wayne Hemingway.

The Bug has a pause, rewind and record live radio feature. You can also record to a memory card or to an external MiniDisc, tape or computer file. It also has an alarm and a sleep feature and up to nine timer record events. The radio scrolling display shows the artist, the song title, news and sports results etc.

Several DAB digital radios have been launched in the UK - from £100 upwards. And more DAB stations are now broadcasting . If you are within range of a DAB transmitter you can receive every station with the audio quality similar to that of an FM broadcast with a strong signal.
