The UK could face power shortages in the years ahead, according to the energy regulator, Ofgem. So the authority responsible for regulating energy supplies has figured out that the UK faces the risk of energy cuts in the years ahead. Ofgem says there is "reasonable doubt" whether the UK will be able to deliver supplies in the coming decade.
Ofcom also warns that a many consumers may not be able to afford the higher energy prices that they will be faced with as a rezsult of the costs of putting up wind turbine generators and the like.
Ofcom reports that the UK energy industry needs £200 billion of new investment, but has doubts whether money on that scale will be spent.
The UK doesn't store much gas compared with countries like Germany and much of its decrepit electricity generating facilities is being closed down in the next decade - increasing risks of blackouts.
