Carry On Team - Charles Hawtrey

Born in Middlesex in 1914, Charles began performing at an early age. Initially a boy soprano - as a youngster he made recordings for Columbia and Regal Gramophone Records and was labelled 'the angel-faced choir boy' - he performed his stage debut at eleven before training at the Italia Conti School.

He made many stage and film appearances with the likes of Will Hay and Patricia Hayes....

He had returned to stage before his death in 1987, aged 73. During his latter years he'd become reclusive and was rarely seen on screen, but despite his sad decline, fuelled partly by alcohol, he'll forever be immortalised as a comic genius who'd only have to appear on the screen in a Carry On and utter 'Oh hello!' to raise a laugh in the audiences who adored him .......
