Carry On Team - Jon PertweeJon was born in London in 1919, trained in RADA before spending much of the 1930's acting in repertory theatre and performing on radio before beginning his career in the latter part of the decade. During the war he served as an officer in the navy, sailing on the HMS Hood just before it was sunk by the bismark. After the war he juggled radio work and television work. But his big break came in 1969 when he became Dr Who. In 1979 he became that well known scarecrow Worzel Gummidge (a role very differant from Dr Who!) Jon died in 1996 at the age of 76. His roles for the Carry Ons were:- Soothsayer in Cleo..Sheriff Albert Earp in Cowboy..Dr Fettle in 'Screaming!'..and the Duke of Costa Brava in Columbus. |
