World Cup - Italy 2-0 Ghana

The Italians opened their World Cup journey with a 2-0 win over newcomers Ghana. Ghana played well, but in the end the Italians just had too much quality for them. Andrea Pirlo and Vincenzo Iaquinta were on the scoresheet for Italy.

Pirlo's goal came from a corner, and the Ghanan defence allowed him too much space, and he was able to drive his effort into the corner of the goal, from outside the penalty area.

Substiute Iaquinta made his mark on the match when he took advantage of Samuel Kaffour's poor backpass seven minutes from time. Kuffour's pass failed to reach the keeper, and Iaquinta pounced to take the ball round the helpless goalie and knock it into the empty net.

Ghana played well, and created many chances of their own, but were unable to find the net against a strong Italian defence. This win leaves Italy with 3 points at the top of Group E, level on points with the Czech Republic, and leaves Ghana level on points with the USA at the bottom.
