World Cup - Argentina 6-0 Serbia and MontenegroSerbia and Montenegro were on the receiveing end of a humiliating defeat to Argentina, who looked nothing short of outstanding. Argentina's display was almost pure perfection from start to finish, and they were the better team by a mile, as the scoreline suggests. 3 goals either side of half time were enough to seal an emphatic victory for the South American giants, who have sent out a huge warning to the rest of the world that they mean business! The goals came courtesy of Maxi Rodriguez (x2), Estebian Cambiasso, Hernan Crespo, Carlos Tevez and Lionel Messi. Argentina dominated the game pretty much from start to finish. They took the lead very early on, Maxi Rodriguez slotted the ball past Dragoslav Jevric in the Serbian goal, following Javier Saviola's pass. Argentina's second was absolutely breathtaking, and one of the greatest world cup team goals ever. No fewer than 24 passes were used in the build up to the goal, and it was a reminiscent of Carlos Alberto's wonderful goal and team effort in the 1970 World Cup final. The ball steadily worked its way up the pitch, where Hernan Crespo backheeled the ball inside the opponents penalty area into the path of the onrushing Estebian Cambiasso who fired the ball home, rounding off a superb team move. Argentina had the ball in the net for the 3rd time in the 36th minute, but Hernan Crespo was deemed to be offside, so the goal did not stand, and he recieved a booking in the process. However, Argentina went into the half time break 3 goals to the good when Maxi Rodriguez scored in the 41st minute. Javier Saviola tackled the Serbian left back near the corner flag before cutting inside the box and passing to Rodriguez at the far post who tapped in his second, and his countries third goal of the game. Things went from bad to worse for Serbia and Montenegro in the second half, as they were reduced to 10 men in the 64th minute. Former Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman was given a straight red card for a dangerous two footed tackle. Argentina scored their fourth of the match with 78 minutes gone. Substitue Lionel Messi found himself in acres of space down the left flank and whipped in a ball straight through the Serbian box for Hernan Crespo to poke in Argentina's fourth. Argentina scored again in the 83rd minute. Substitute Carlos Tevez skipped past two defenders before cutting into the box and firing a right footed strike into the oppositions goal. This was his first goal in his first World Cup appearance for Argentina. Five minutes later Argentina completed the rout, youngster Lionel Messi scored a fine goal to finish proceedings. He latched onto Tevez's pass before running past a defender and hitting a well struck shot into the Serbian goal. All in all, this was an incredible performance for Argentina, and a day to forget for Serbia and Montenegro. This is the biggest winning margin so far in the world cup, and Argentina looked very confident and very comfortable. With more performances like this, Argentina might just go all the way.
