WTA tests out on court Tennis coaching

The WTA has today announced its plans to test out on court coaching.

Tennis players will be able to summon coaches courtside during changeovers and between sets in a test starting next month, by the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour at tournaments in Montreal and New Haven, Conn. The tour expects to test the system in singles and doubles.

For years Tennis has resisted efforts to change the fundamental rules of the game and has instead upheld its traditions.

Traditionalists are against the move and want ot see the sport retain its traditions intact. Some see it as of benefit to top ranked players with their own in situ coach to the detriment of other lower ranked players who may be coachless.
