My blog - Troupe dancingI dance in a group called 'The Hornettes'. We are the dance troupe for Rochdale Hornets RLFC and perform at all home games. It sounds easy but is much harder than it looks! You have to be dedicated, hard working and able to concentrate to remember all the moves. Having a good memory helps as we have at least 16 dance routines to learn during a season. For half our dances we use pom-pom's. Usually these are more formation based and we have a partner to work with. The rest of the dances are normal dance routines where our hand movements need to be seen. They are also usually a bit faster and pom-pom's would get in the way or you could take an eye out!! We practice twice a week for 2 hours at a time and only get 5 weeks off during the year. This is where the commitment comes in as if you don't turn up to practice it makes it harder for our troupe leader to judge where people will be standing or how it will look on the day. On match days we also do a 'Guard of Honour' and both teams run through us to get on the pitch. We also stand on the sidelines to cheer the lads on. Normally we dance just before the match kicks off and it gives you a certain rush when you are out there infront of hundreds of people. I really enjoy troupe dancing and in January it will be my 4th season. It is lots of fun and keeps me fit and active. Also, I get to meet up with some members of my family who are in the troupe as well and we have a laugh together. That's enough for now and I will keep you updated when we start to practice again and let you know how it is all going. See ya!!

sounds fun!
hmmm... I wonder who the stand in could be ;)
sounds like a good hobby! does this mean you get to see the home matches for free?
The stand in......
Yes, she probably would kill you so best keep it quiet ;)
I have to say you do a great job Nic and your talent and commitment really are appreciated x x x
Dedication...
It does get annoying sometimes when people don't turn up to practice. We can't get much done if it is a routine as you need yout partner but my mum usually steps in but the person then isn't up to scratch on the dance.
There have been times as well when people haven't turned up on a match day. That is the worst bit because everything has to be changed round at the last minute to cover the missing girl. We do have a stand in though but I can't mention names or she will kill me!! lol
Well done!
Nic I think it is wonderful that you show such dedication and get so much out of this.
You say commitment is needed - do all your troup tend to be committed like you are? I can imagine if just one person didn't turn up regularly it could throw the whole routine for everyone?
About dancing.....
My favourite dance is a routine we do to a remix of Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne!! It is fast and I like the moves to it.
I actually want to be a school teacher mstar. Dancing is my hobby really.
Our troupe leader decides on which routine we do Sassy. She also happens to be my mum as well! lol She picks the best dances to suit the crowd numbers. Certain teams fetch lots of fans so the best dances are done then.
Thanks for this! I had
