New Zealand Tri-Nations team have points deductedNew Zealand have had 2 points deducted for their win against Great Britain. The Kiwi's won 18-14 but have been penalised for playing an 'ineligible' player. Players are only allowed to play for another country, which is not their birth country, if a grandparent was born there. Australian-born Nathan Fien had played for NZ in Saturday's match but it was discovered that it was actually his great-grandparent who was born in New Zealand, thus making it illegal for him to have played in any of the Tri-Nations matches. He had also played in the match against Australia but NZ where defeated in that game so there where no points to take away. Fien has also been banned from taking part any further in the competition. New Zealand and Great Britain are now on zero points from the competition with NZ having 1 match left to play and GB have 3. The ruling also means that Australia are basically guaranteed a place in the final.
