Australia v Great Britain - Tri-Nations result and team selections - 04/11/06Great Britain managed to defeat Australia in a tough, physical match today. Willie Mason was lucky to stay on the pitch for the Roo's as time and again he resorted to foul play to try and win the game. Greg Inglis put Australia ahead after a Ben Hornby interception before Paul Wellens made it 6-6 at half time after a superb dummy from his St Helens team mate Sean Long. Jamie Peacock then crossed over the try line before Darren Lockyer converted his own try. But tries from Lee Gilmour and Gareth Raynor, plus a drop-goal from Long, sealed a famous, and much needed, win. It has been 14 years since GB last beat the Aussies on their home turf and gave Britain 2 much needed points to put them in the running for the final. It was also a sweet victory as all week the Australian press and team had slated the GB lads and had been saying how easy they would be to beat. Famous last words!! The final score was Australia 12 - Great Britain 23. Here are the names of the players from both squads:- Great Britain: Paul Wellens, Brian Carney, Keith Senior, Kirk Yeaman, Gareth Raynor, Leon Pryce, Sean Long, Stuart Fielden, Terry Newton, Jamie Peacock (captain), Gareth Ellis, Gareth Hock, Sean O'Loughlin. Interchange: James Roby, Adrian Morley, Lee Gilmour, Jon Wilkin. Australia: Karmichael Hunt, Brent Tate, Mark Gasnier, Jamie Lyon, Greg Inglis, Darren Lockyer (captain), Ben Hornby, Mark O'Meley, Shaun Berrigan, Petero Civoniceva, Willie Mason, Nathan Hindmarsh, Luke O'Donnell. Interchange: Cameron Smith, Anthony Tupou, Brent Kite, Antonio Kaufusi.

Willie Mason....
He has been suspended for 1 match for punching Stuart Fielden in the face. He 'got off' with elbowing Sean Long in the face!
It beggars belief as he nearly took Long's head off. His excuse for hitting Fielden was 'I thought he was about to punch me!!'
Should have been red carded in the first place but Ashley Klien bottled it in my opinion.
