Death on the NileDavid Suchet returned to play Hercule Poirot in 2004 in the remake of Death on the Nile. The film was premiered on UK television in April 2004. It is probably the best of all the David Suchet Poirots and is better in many respects than the 1978 Peter Ustinov film. Although Emily Blunt and JJ Feild did not match Lois Chiles and Simon MacCorkindale the rest of the cast was excellent and surpassed their 1978 counterparts. Elodie Kendall, playing Joanna Southgate, had a classic Sloan Ranger accent. She delivered the line: "Isn't it awful when one's friends fall on hard times? One simply has to drop them" with great style. Emma Malin was also excellent in the role as Jackie. Felicité Du Jeu was the perfect maid - with the real French accent that Jane Birkin failed to achieve in the original. Steve Pemberton's German doctor was also well played - as was the manager of the paddle-steamer played by George Yiasoumi. Kevin Elyot's screenplay was also probably the best in the Poirot series. In particular, look out for Colonel Race's entrance. The shots in the hotel in Cairo were filmed with great style. And you will not be disappoined with the Nile paddle-steamer and the Egyptian ruins.
