Stone Tape Theory

One theory of a haunting is by a method called Stone Tape Theory. So what is this theory?

Stone Tape Theory is when scenes or events are replayed under certain conditions because somehow this energy is captured within stonework of buildings and played back, akin to a tape. It is thought that the "recording" happens at stressful times such as a murder, grief or another important time in a person's life. Somehow the energy of the living being is stored within the stonework until a time when someone with particular attributes comes along and triggers the event off by either psychic ability or their stress levels.
The "recording" can either be in the way of visual or audio such as a manifestation or footsteps or voices. The playback is just a record of an event that happened, therefore the event could be seen at any time regardless of time of day or year.

Why is it called Stone Tape Theory? It is believed that the materials such as brick and rock hold the right properties to enable events to be "recorded".
The theory became popular from a storyline of a BBC drama The Stone Tape (Kneale) in the 70s which scientists had the theory that the material of the room stored visual and audio imprint.

Tape

A tape is moving so that images and audio can change with time. Stone is just stone and nothing moves so it would be difficult for it to remember anything that changes with time.
