The Apprentice Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

The Apprentice - defeat from the jaws of victory

It is as rare for a Social Sensitive to star in business as it is for a grey horse to win races. Dessert Orchid was an exception and Gerry Robinson (Can Gerry Fix the NHS?) is another.

Last night, the Apprentice showed us why. Dear, sweet and eccentrically charming Lucinda led her to team from a perfect victory to defeat by Bad Luck.

The task - make and sell new ice cream flavours

Of the two teams, Lucinda was head and shoulders a better manager, her team was happier and more satisfied and, apart from Jenny (Cruella deVille - Sensitive Individual) continuing to skin puppies, there was no bitching. Day 1 for Lucinda's team was a big happy family, making ice creams, booking appointments with the youngsters putting on a show for the adults in the evening (ice cream tasting for the villagers). On the other side, Clare (the Poison Pig) and her favorites spent the afternoon tasting cider and the evening finding out whether people ate ice cream with beer. In the meantime her production team struggled to make chocolate and orange ice cream with no chocolate and no oranges. The next day, despite every rule of fair play, Poison Pig and Co got one order from the big league which made mincemeat of the opposition.

In the follow up programme - Lindie gave away herself away - she thought the boys were hot, which shows how easily Robust Social girls fall for the paper thin charms of the Sensitive Individual boys. But I suppose someone has to handle their unstable combination of sensitivity and ego.

Should Lindie have been fired? As a Robust Social she can charm the birds (and boys) from the trees. Without her in the house, Individuals' egos are likely to flare up faster as the competition hots up.

And tips for the board room? Sir Alan is looking for someone who seriously wants the job. Lindie was too nice. She set herself up to lead the sales team but in the board room she was soft. She failed to kill Cruella Deville when she had the chance. Sir Alan wants blood. But, if Sir Alan is not make the same mistake as last year (He hired a woman who immediately got pregnant by a fellow contender, when the runner up Linda the Badger - Robust Social was a lesbian) he needs to understand that ego is not everything and that a little bit of social goes a long way.

Definitely Lindi

Lindi should definitely have gone. She never had enough good ideas and too many bad ones.
