More government cash needed for Olympic village

The incontinent Olympic project is leaking even faster. It is now known the government will be forced to step in to bail out the London 2012 Olympic "athletes' village" - the name given to the dormitory blocks.

The existing deal with Lend Lease, an Australian outfit charged with building the £1 billion village, may collapse entirely.

The Olympic Delivery Authority had agreed to pour in in £550 million of public money for the so-called village, and the remaining £450 million was supposed to come from Lend Lease and other private-sector outfits. But Lend Lease can't raise its share and will probably not be able to keep to its side of the deal.

Lend Lease has issues a statement that it may well walk away from the arrangement with the ODA. A spokeswoman said: “Getting funding is essentially the ODA’s problem. If all the parameters can’t be met, we won’t do it as a developer.”

And guess who will foot the bill for the £450 million they were supposed to come up with. Right first time.

More shambolic arrangements.

From the tone of the above it appears that the ODA (and therefore the organisers) failed to get a contract signed by Lend Lease. If this is so it is unbelievabley bad organising. If one was signed then they should pursue them to the full extent of the law. However if that buffoon Livingdead was involved I fear the worst.
