This prime-time American soap is based around the life and affairs (business and personal) of the Texan Ewing family and their associates and introduces one of television's all-time great bad guys, the legendery JR Ewing. The Ewings' wealth from the oil industry, thanks to the manoeuvring of John Ross ('Jock') Ewing, the head of the clan, who cheated his great rival, Digger Barnes, out of the proceeds of a giant oil-strike some 40 years earlier. Jock also stole Digger's girl Eleanor Southworth ('Miss Ellie'), leaving the two families the bitterest enemies since the Capulets and the Montagues.

Tennis - U.S.Open (28th Aug-10th Sept) - Draw announced

Diana Ross will perform, and Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Chris Evert and Venus Williams will participate in next week's opening night ceremony at the U.S. Open.

The focus will be the renaming of the U.S. Tennis Association National Tennis Centre in honour of former Tennis player and pioneer Billie Jean King.

WTA tests out on court Tennis coaching

The WTA has today announced its plans to test out on court coaching.

Tennis players will be able to summon coaches courtside during changeovers and between sets in a test starting next month, by the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour at tournaments in Montreal and New Haven, Conn. The tour expects to test the system in singles and doubles.
