Actors and actressesRumours have been spreading around Whitehall that former England captain, David Beckham, could be about to become knighted in Queen Elizabeth's New Year's honours list. If the 31 year old former England star does get knighted, it would mean his wife, Victoria, will be known as Lady Victoria, and the man himself will be known as Sir David Beckham.
Film Gregory's Girl (1981)- shown on Sky Cinema 1, 8pm. Dee Hepburn who starred in this film had only one more screen role after playing Gregory's girl - a three-stint on Crossroads in the mid 1980's - before she gave up acting to start a family. Elegant British Actor, raised in Bury St Edmunds and initially trained in law, Le Mesurier had been immortalised as the ineffective Sgt Wilson in Dad's Army, but was a prominent performer on TV for four decades. He was born Leslie Heseltine in 1954 in Liverpool. For a few years he was the screen partner of fellow impressionist the late Dustin Gee. Les was Mavis (in Coronation Street) and Dustin was Vera Duckworth (also from the street) Jon was born in London in 1919, trained in RADA before spending much of the 1930's acting in repertory theatre and performing on radio before beginning his career in the latter part of the decade. Peter was born in Bramhall, Greater Manchester in 1919, and was approaching 30 before he turned to acting professionally. It looked as if a military career beckoned and when war broke out, he joined the Fleet Air Army, but his flying days were shortlived when his plane was shot down off the Dutch coast in 1941, and he was taken to a POW camp where he spent the remaining war years. Hattie was born in Sandgate, Kent in 1924 and was educated at the Godolphin and Latymer schools. She trained as a hairdresser and served in the 2nd world war in the Red Cross and, later, in a factory in London. Sidney James was the son of vaudeville artists and was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1913. He arrived on British soil in 1946 determined to become a full time actor. Back home in Johannesburg he was a trained hairdresser and had run his own salon.. Born in Middlesex in 1914, Charles began performing at an early age. Initially a boy soprano - as a youngster he made recordings for Columbia and Regal Gramophone Records and was labelled 'the angel-faced choir boy' - he performed his stage debut at eleven before training at the Italia Conti School. Born in 1922 David entered films and television in the 1950's. His small-screen work included appearances in The Flying Doctor..Riptide..Shannon's Mob..The Outsiders..Dear Ladies and in 1983 ABC's series Scales Of Justice, his last television role before dying in Australia in 1984.. |
